Juggling Too Much in College?

Juggling Too Much in College?
Imagine you have a large glass vase, 7 beautiful oranges, and several bags of colorful Skittles (yum). Just as in life, your job is to fill the vase with everything you have in front of you.

If you fill the vase with the Skittles first, then try to add the seven oranges, you’ll never fit everything in. But if you start by placing the oranges first, then slowly pour in the Skittles—letting them filter down around the oranges—miraculously it all fits.

Life is a lot like those oranges and Skittles. Skittles represent the day-to-day clutter of our lives: getting right on your phone as soon as you wake up, rushing out the door, homework, practices, etc, etc...

The seven oranges, on the other hand, represent the seven key areas of life—your 7 F’s of Oola. If you take care of your major goals first, then fit the little things around them, miraculously it all gets accomplished.

3x5 Notecard: Start a New Daily Habit

One way to make sure the oranges in your life get the focus (instead of the clutter) is to write down action steps that will get you closer to achieving your major goals.

Every night, pull out a 3x5 notecard and divide it down the middle: write at least 3 must-do action items on the right (Oranges) and clutter on the left (Skittles). In the morning, focus on accomplishing those MIT’s—most important tasks—starting with doing the worst first.

Like this: Oranges
🔘Ask my boss about leadership training + promotion
🔘Start a $1,000 “emergency fund” account at the bank
🔘Schedule two special date nights with myself in the next 30 days

Skittles
🔘Finish my writing homework assignment
🔘Pick-up the flea medicine for my dog that mom wanted me to pick up
🔘Fold and put away my laundry

Try this “3x5 Notecard Strategy” for a couple of days and see what you can accomplish toward your major goal. Write out a notecard right now and another one tonight (to focus on tomorrow). Then comment below or share in the Intentional & Ignited Young Adults group your biggest win. ✅

Your Dream Life is Closer Than it Seems

Your Dream Life is Closer Than it Seems
For too many people, the “perfect life” seems so far away . . . impossible . . . something they’ll never attain. But what if I told you there’s a system for creating the awe-inspiring life you want? It’s a series of steps that quickly brings about the balance and stability you need in order to start going for your dreams.

When life is chaotic, unhealthy, overburdened with work and school, and filled with toxic relationships that are a constant source of stress, there’s simply no bandwidth left to work on creating the life you want.

The life you’re living right now keeps getting in the way of your future.

Well, today, I’d like to help you visualize that compelling life which could be just a few short months away. I’d like to help you decide what you want, write it down, and talk about ways to bring it about—faster than you ever thought possible. Study after study reports that deciding what you want —then setting goals around those "wants"—is one of the most reliable ways to get there.

To start the process, I have a FREE planning journal for you—simply comment on this post with your email, and I’ll email it to you. It’s called the “Oola Life Planner” and inside you’ll find a seven-part exercise that helps you look at every area of your life today . . . privately, on your own, with no one checking your answers.

A Complete Balanced Life is BS

Balance this, balance that, blah blah blahhhh.

That word has become a huge thing and it can get really feel repetitive and start to be one of those topics we start to glaze over.

I remember trying to strive for this ‘balanced’ picture perfect life and how unfulfilled I felt, overwhelmed and defeated.

I felt so worn out and defeated because the idea of a balanced life that was engraved in my head, wasn’t even realistic or attainable at all.

I would work myself to death trying to keep my home clean, workout 6 days a week, work 40 hours a week, work another 60 hours a week on my businesses (don’t judge my math), try to keep myself smelling presentable, trying to eat enough, eat good enough, and I was dead.

Balance? More like burning myself out.

It seems like the most unbalanced people are the ones who are stressing over all the non controllable.

When you relax and embrace whatever season you gotta be in right now, life naturally starts to feel more overall balanced.

The fact of the matter is balance isn’t what someone tells you it is, when it comes to your life. It’s what feels most authentic and well-rounded to you.

We can be striving for perfection and balance so much that we become miserable and the exact opposite.

The idea of a perfect balanced life is unattainable and will set you up for failure/disappointment right off the bat. You won’t feel like you’re doing enough constantly because NO ONE can do EVERYTHING that is required for complete ‘balance’.

Find your own sense of balance. If that’s working on your business on your days off, go for it. If it’s taking those 2 days completely off and only working a bit after you get off your job, then do that.

To me a well rounded life is a more doable and enjoyable one.

Sometimes balance will be knowing when to focus on one area of life more than another. When a family member is ill, of course family will be a priority and the rest will be less of a focus.

It’s a process of making the best next move and BEING OKAY IN THAT. Sometimes I have to force myself out of a work mode because I know that my well being relies on those boundaries and the times where I make myself go have some darn fun and enjoy my life.

Learn what your boundaries are and what means the most to you.

This word called balance (more like blah blah), is hyped up a lot, but it’s just a fancy word for living a fulfilling life. Don’t stress over it too much. Just go enjoy this life, my dude.
