Taking the first step is the hardest. I think we all know that. Whether it be the first step in a new school or the first step towards change. It is a challenging thing to do but the most crucial piece in getting where we desire to be. Sometimes we have to take multiple first steps in the same situation before consistent and noticeable, good change occurs. For me, I’ve had trouble staying consistent with implementing time to rest or what I like to call; quiet time. I push it off and put it on the back burner and not long after having it there, the pot runs out of water and burns, becoming unusable. Just like we are told that we can’t give running on empty, how do we expect to do more when necessary habits and steps are vital to be made. So first, let’s go ahead and make that first step. Even if it might be the 100th first step you’ve taken, take it again with a shift this time.
Don’t expect so much out of it. Treat it as if you’re just learning how to walk, taking the little wobbly steps full of excitement. That baby learning how to walk doesn’t fret about all the steps he/she has to take for the rest of their life. They put so much energy into that first step and use that momentum to take their second and their third, and so on. I know that with me, I expect SO FREAKIN MUCH out of anything I put on myself to do. I expect an unnecessary amount out of effort, result, etc out of myself. When really, I should be so proud of every step that I’ve made and am making. Every little thing has brought me to even make this decision to start or restart something and that is a beautiful thing! To be where I am is a beautiful thing to celebrate even if it might not be the prettiest place. All that pressure you’re putting on yourself to make whatever it may be, perfect, is wasting your time. Wasting your precious time, gosh darnit. This time around set out with the intention to make this one different. To do that, you need to be willing to celebrate every ounce, every inch, every feeling. All of it. Celebrate them because that build up of high energy will get your feet moving so fast (your fitbit won’t even be able to keep up), and will allow you to produce so much more goodness. Not only so much goodness in that goal or habit you are setting out to accomplish, but that high energy will overflow into everything else you are doing and everything that’s to come. That ripple effect will be bonkers, lemme tell ya!
That one thing that has been eating at you to set out to do—Send it some love, put on your good walking shoes and sit down. You heard me, sit down. You have your love, your intention on what to do, and the shoes to get there safely but you’re missing something. Sit down and dig deep. How will you make this first step impactful like no other? No matter how small the step may be, how will you make it worthwhile? You will celebrate before you even have started. Celebrate that you are reading this. Seriously, say “I am so proud of you for taking the time and effort in reading this! You freakin rock and are doing amazing things”. It felt good to say those things out loud, didn’t it? Now can you imagine how it’ll feel when you are doing the dirty work and taking the challenging steps, and get recognized for that? So recognize yourself. Do NOT wait for anyone else to celebrate you because if you do, anyone that comes around will probably be lame at celebrations anyways lol. This step towards wherever you are going is already so beautiful. Love it whole-heartedly and fill it with excitement just like that baby taking their first step. Go into it filled with energy and you’ll be coming out on the other side of the journey, dancing.
What have you been putting off? I’d love to hear from you and celebrate as you take your next step ❤︎
